Will of John Mayhew, Tallow Chandler of Herriard , Hampshire. Proved 31 January 1794

In the Name of God Amen

I John Mayhew of Herriard in the County of Southampton

Tallow Chandler do make public and Declare this to be my

last Will and Testament in manner and form following (

that is to say) I Give Praise and Bequeath unto my Brother

Robert Mayhew and my Sister Mary the Wife of Edward

Cobden and to their Heirs as Tenents in Common all

that my Copyhold Estate situate lying and being in and

held of the Manor of Westmeon in the County of Southampton

aforesaid Subject to the Estate of my Mother Mary

Mayhew for her life therein And also all my Monies

and Securities for Money Wearing Apparel and all other

my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and whosesoever

which I am possesser of to be equally Divided between

them my said Brother Robert Mayhew and my Sister

Mary Cobden share and share alike And I appoint

and nominate my said Brother and Sister Executors and

Executrix of this my Will In witness whereof I the

said John Mayhew the Testator have to this my last

Will Set my hand and affixed my Seal the thirtieth day

of [November] in the year of our Lord one thousand seven

hundred and ninety three The Mark X of John Mayhew Signed

Sealed Published and Declared by the said Testator as and for

his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his

presence and at his request and in the presence of each other

have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto the [words and]

to their [Heirs] as Tenants in Common being first [int???]

Will of Mary Mayhew, Spinster of Frensham , Surrey. Proved 22 February 1800

This is the last Will

AND Testament of me Mary Mayhew of Churt in the

parish of Frensham in the County of Surry

Spinster [wh? ] I dispose of such Temporal Estate

as I am blessed withal in manner following (that

is to say) all and singular my Messuages Buildings

Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real Estate

whatsoever and whosesoever and of what nature

or [?] soever (the Copyhold part whereof I

have duly Surrendered to the use of this my

Will) I give and devise unto and to the

use of my Nephew William Mayhew son of my

Brother Thomas Mayhew his heirs and assigns

for ever Subject nevertheless to and I do hereby

charge and make chargeable all my said Real

Estate to and with the payment thereout by

the said William Mayhew his heirs and assigns

of one Annuity or clear Yearly Sum of Eight

Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain unto

his father the said Thomas Mayhew for and

during the term of his natural life by equal

Quarterly payments on Lady day Midsummer day

Michaelmas day and Christmas day in every

year the first payment thereof to begin and be

made on such of the said days as shall

happen next after my decease Also I give and

bequeath unto all and every the Children of my

Nephew Robert Mayhew now born or hereafter to

be born the Sum of one hundred pounds of

lawful Money of Great Britain to be equally divided

between them or the Survivors of them when

and as soon as the youngest of such children

shall have attained the age of twenty one years

And I direct that the yearly Interest and Income

of the said sum of one hundred Pounds be

from time to time paid and applied for the

benefit of such Children during the Minority of

the Youngest of them in such manner and

proportions as my Executors herein after named

shall think most conducive to their benefit Also

I give and bequeath unto all and every the

Children of Henry Piles by my Niece Sarah his

wife late Sarah Mayhew now born or hereafter

to be born the Sum of one hundred pounds of

like lawful money to be equally divided between

them or the Survivors of them when and as

soon as the Youngest of such Children shall

have attained the age of twenty one year and

I direct that the yearly Interest and Income of

the said Sum of one hundred pounds be from

time to time paid and applied for the benefit

of such Children during the Minority of the

Youngest of them in such manner and proportions

as my Executors herein after named shall think

most conducive to their benefit Also I give and

bequeath unto my said niece Sarah Piles the

Sum of Ten pounds to be paid unto her proper

hands for her sole and separate use and I

direct that the Receipt of my said Niece Sarah

Piles alone notwithstanding her coverture shall be

a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors

for the same Also I give and bequeath unto

my Niece Sarah the wife of John Baker the

Sum of one hundred pounds and to my Niece

Ann the wife of James Bennett the like Sum

of one hundred pounds of lawful money of

Great Britain Also I give and bequeath

unto the four Children of my Nephew Eli

Birmingham when and as they shall attain

their respective Ages of twenty one years the

Sum of Ten pounds apiece of like lawful

money And to the two Children of my

Niece Mary the wife of [blank space] Cobden late

Mary Mayhew when and as they shall attain

their respective Ages of twenty one Years the

like Sum of Ten pounds apiece of lawful

money Also I give and bequeath unto my

Nephews and Niece William Mayhew Robert Mayhew

and Elizabeth the wife of [blank space] Benham Sons

and Daughter of my late Brother William

Mayhew and to each and every of them the

Sum of one hundred pounds apiece of like

lawful money and I hereby direct that all

the before mentioned Legaries except such as

are given to minors be paid to the said

Legaries respectively within twelve months next

after my decease And all and every my Goods

Chattels ready money Securities for money Rights

Credits Effects and Personal Estate whatsoever

(after payment of my just Debts the aforesaid

Legaries and my Funeral and other Testamentary

Expences and Subject and Liable thereto) I give

and bequeath unto the said John Baker and

James Bennett their Executors and Administrators to

be equally divided between them share and

share alike and I constitute and appoint the

said John Baker and James Bennett

Executors of this my last Will and Testament In

Witness whereof I have to this my last Will

and Testament contained in this and the preceading sheet of

paper set my Hand and Seal (to wit) my hand

only to the said preceading Sheet and my

Hand and Seal to this last Sheet thereof the thirtieth

day of October in the year of our Lord one

thousand seven hundred and ninety nine Mary

Mayhew Signed Sealed Published and Declared

by the said Mary Mayhew the Testatrix as

for her last Will and Testament in the

presence of us who at her request in her

presence of each other have subscribed our Names

as Witness thereto, John New[?]ham The mark
