It is possible that Thomas was from a Non-Conformist family.
He may have been the Thomas apprenticed to cordwainer Edward Juba Fortune:

Thomas' son William is known to have been a shoemaker, so may have followed his father's career.
He married Harriot WILKINSON 29 Mar 1781, St James' (Piccadilly), Westminster, Middlesex.
