 I hereby certify, that I knew Mr. Joseph Orchard before the commencement of the Rebellion in America - who, at the time I was under the necessity of quitting New York in 1776, follow'd the baking-business there with great reputation, and was well known to those with whom he was acquainted to be a throughpaced Loyalist. That on my return to New York in 1777, I found him industrously employ'd in the capacity of Superintendant of the Bakeries: to which office, I understood he was appointed for his uniform and zealous attachment to the British Government, and the many essential services he had render'd to His Majesty's Troops.
